Over 90% of Minneapolis Trees Are Planted Too Deep.
A Hidden Crisis Threatening Your Trees' Health
University of Minnesota research show most (90%) local trees are buried too deeply, leading to trunk decay, girdling roots, and early decline.
Many trees (87%) leave nurseries with excess soil over the roots.
Widespread 'mulch' volcanoes further suffocate tree trunks.

Quick Check: Spot the Telltale Signs Around Your Trees
Take a quick 10-second look at your trees. Many common issues are visible right at ground level.

Telephone Pole Trunk?
Trees should have hips, if it looks like a fence-post, it’s too deep. A healthy trunk widens (flares) where it meets the roots. No flare means it's likely buried.
Mulch Hugging the Bark?
Mulch shouldn’t hug, pull it back so the trunk can breathe. Mulch piled like a volcano against the trunk traps moisture and invites decay.
Roots Squeezing the Trunk?
That root is literally choking the tree. Every year the noose gets tighter. Visible roots wrapping around the base are a serious threat.
If you see these signs, your tree could be experiencing the early symptoms of slow-motion failure. The Gentle Arbor can diagnose and address these critical issues.

Our "Surgical, Not Industrial" Approach to Tree Wellness
We use hand tools (trowels, hori-hori knives, and soft brooms) to provide meticulous care with minimal landscape disturbance and quiet operation.

Precision Root Flare Excavation
Gently removing excess soil & mulch to expose critical root flares, allowing your trees to breathe and thrive.

Expert Tree Mulching
Applying mulch correctly to protect roots, retain moisture, and enhance aesthetics without damaging the trunk.
